Appearence

Imposing is the word people think of when they see Michael Moragon for the first time. Extremely tall and well built, with gray eyes and thick, dark reddish hair, a reddish complexion from too many years of exposure to the sun, Moragon is a distinguished-looking man. He has an abrasive, rather overbearing manner, and is a man of violent passions.

Background

He was born to Richard Moragon and Leola Montiero in the small Central Valley community of Devil's Den. His father was the local patron, while Leola was the daughter of one of his peons. Richard acknowleged his illegitimate son, but in the aristocratic culture of pre-UKA conquest Southern California, young Michael was a social liability to his father, so he was fostered with a merchant's family in El Paso de Robles to the west. Julio Olanza treated Michael like his own son and gave him what passed for a good education in that place and time. On his eighteenth birthday, Michael enlisted in the Royal Horse Guards Blues and about two months later married his pregnant girlfriend, Karen Ayers. Intelligent, ambitious, literate, and handsome, Michael applied for and received a posting to Officer's Candidate School in 2027. (See Career Summary.

Major General Moragon's in the summer of 2041, while he was in Europe, and this loss devastated him. After his death, he has been particularly close to his many children and grandchildren.

He has the reputation of being a harsh disciplinarian and task master. He was more feared than loved by his troops. He is also known to be very excitable during a crisis, and had the reputation of loving nothing better than to solve his problems by charging them, sword in hand.

During the fall of 2045, while commander of the Guard Armored Division, he was relieved of command by the commander of of Army Group B, Admiral McDowell, for failing to control his men during a minor uprising in the Joliet area. Soldiers under his command massacred over two hundred suspected rebels, and it was clear that Moragon failed to exercise any proper control over his men. An appeal of the removal to King Patrick brought down not only a confirmation of McDowell's order to relieve him, but also a stinging rebuke for disobeying stated national policy. From that moment on, Moragon has gone from one of King Patrick's most fervent supporters to one of his most rabid enemies. Retiring early, Moragon won a by-election to Parilament, and with the help of the Duchess d'Aosta, took control of the demoralized Kennedy-Democratic Party. He is actively supporting that wing of his party that is calling for the abolition of the monarchy and the creation of a republic.
