A tall, lanky fellow with a thick mane of dark brown hair and brown eyes. Wears a small pair of glasses to counteract his poor eyesight, and has a thin mustache which gives him a professorial look. Not very muscular, but quick and agile. Not a very neat person, he usually has the most rumpled, wrinkled uniform of any of the soldiers.
Jakob grew up in Dundee, a small town thirty miles south of Portland, to a pair of well-to-do landowners. Being the son of wealthy parents left him rather ostracized from the rest of the community, and all his schooling took place at home learning from his mother. At the age of five, he was introduced to the most wonderful object in his young life: A set of walkie-talkies. Electronics soon became an obsession with young Jakob, and much of his free time was spent studying and tinkering with old, broken electrical equipment. He discovered how to boost the range of walkie-talkies to cover almost a mile in area, and fixed a old decrepit CB radio system. Later, the obsession turned to HAM radio systems, and after building his own setup, he would stay up late nights talking with other HAM operators across the nation. At eighteen, he moved out to join the army as a communications specialist, and began what turned into a fruitful career. His knack for fixing old communication gear and his knowledge of most electronic devices led to quick promotion and wide popularity within his unit. Buying his own house in Portland and quickly filling it with both communications gear and the most up-to-date electronics devices he could find fulfilled his lifelong dream to have accomplishments that he didn't need to thank his parents wealth for. His unit was kept out the combat for most of his time in the service, however, he was involved in the combat in Spain and later the French campaign. He received a commendation for a brilliant maneuver in securing the evacuation of an outnumbered and outgunned division of Marines by radioing for two alternate divisions to attack the enemy in a pincer move that led to the possible disaster being turned into a rout for the UKA. His only combat duty impressed his superiors, and some said it even got the attention of the King himself. Regardless, it phased Jakob little and he went back to his electronics and communications gear without any fuss. At the chance to serve on active combat duty again for a very special mission at the behest of the King himself, Jakob jumped at the chance, if only for the opportunity to have first crack at setting up the first communication line between America and Asia.
