The world of the Portland Aftermath game diverged from the real world on the morning of May 12, 1985, with a coup taking place in Moscow. All world events prior to that date are considered to be identical with that of the world as we know it today. From that day to August 1 things are increasingly changed. Much of interest happened before the actual beginning of the campaign in the Spring of 2005, the beginning of the end of the Years of Chaos.
The arrival of Rear Admiral R.E. Ffolkes of the British Royal Navy in the Alaskan community of Bayshore in the spring of 2005 heralded the beginning of the entity that would grow into the United Kingdom of America. Thus, the period from 2005 to 2019 was a period of transition from a scattering of independent towns and villages scattered in mutual distrust into the start of a new state that would bring order and prosperity to the west Coast of North America.
