Origins of the Royal Armed Services

The Royal Armed Services had their origins in the crew of the H.M.S. Alaska I, a vessel little more than a long boat, purchased and manned by Rear Admiral Ffolkes in the spring of 2005 in Anchorage, in the former U.S. state of Alaska. Comissioned as a vessel in the U.K. Royal Navy, the Alaska Ibecame the nucleus of the British North Pacific Squadron, based out of Whittier, Alaska. With the creation of the Alaska League late that year, the Royal Navy absorbed the small, improvised navies of the southern Alaska coast. With the the assistance of the Alaska League, the Royal Navy completed H.M.S.Phoenix I in the spring of 2007. After breaking the back of the Imperial Japanese Navy in Alaskan waters at the battle of Kodiak, Ffolkes organized the occupation of Maui in the Hawaiian islands.

On that island, Ffolkes raised the first Royal Army unit, later the 1st "Maui Fusiliers." As a result of an incident involving salvaged equipment, the then Vice Admiral Ffolkes ordered an atttack on the Republic of Portland, on the west coast of North America. The Maui Fusiliers distinguished themselves at the decisive Battle of Silver Springs, which overthrew the ruling oligarchy. Most of the surviving units of the Portland Republic were incorporated into the Royal Army.

The first Royal Air Force aircraft were pre-war aircraft acquired from the Republic of Portland in the conquest. The fledgeling Portland aircraft industry began building new aircraft for the RAF soon after the conquest.
