The Constitutional Monarchist Party, or Con Mons as they are more commonly called, believe that the best form of government is one with power divided between the monarchy and Parliament, with the monarchy setting policy in maintaining order and in foriegn affairs while the Parliament holds legislative and appropriations powers.
The Constitutional Monarchists' current platform issues include:
The Con Mons developed out of Admiral Ffolkes' supporters in the early Parliaments of the first few years of the British North American Colonies. Oriented towards a moderate stance toward democracy and a strong orientation towards reconstruction and high technology.
The official founding date of the party was in June of 2020, when a committee headed by Joseph Ableidinger declared itself the first national party convention and adopted officers, bylaws, and a platform. King Josh was invited to become the patron of the party. The king saw the utility of a core of organized political supporters in Parliament and agreed that the Con Mons were the closest political organization to his own ideas, though the king was, and is, officially aloof from party politics. Prime Minister Michael Krepel promptly joined the party and became its official chairman.
In the election of 2021, the first after the founding of the party, it took just over 40% of the seats and, in conjunction with the Farmer's Party, the American Indian Party, and the Christian Party, formed a ruling coalition which, with various changes among the minor parties, has stayed in place to this day.
Prime Minister Krepel remained chairman until his retirement from office on May 5, 2036. He was succeeded by Valeria McKerral as prime minister on that day. With that change began the free election of Parliaments and the first serious challenges to the party's political dominance. Prime Minister McKerral died of cancer on June 29, 2038 and King Patrick summoned David Borisov to the prime ministership. On July 16, 2040 Borisov disappears under mysterious circumstances. On July 19, 2040, Queen Margaret announces that David Borisov comitted suicide on the night of the 16th while at the Bunker in Portland. Rumors persist that Queen Margaret ordered Borisov executed for treason after he attempted a palace coup while King Patrick was prisoner of the Roman Empire. The next day, the party leadership elected party founder Joseph Ableidinger as prime minister. On May 9, 2045, Ableidinger resigned due to ill health and was replaced by Duchess Julie Harbuck-Hornak of Nicaragua, much to the surprise of many of the party faithful. She has proved to be a powerful and ruthless leader. King Patrick continues to be closely afiliated with the party and has an excellent working relationship with the PM.
