UKA Armored and Motorized TO & Es

Notes on the UKA Orders of Battle: The format used is that of the Command Decision III^tm miniatures rules, the rules we use to fight most of our land battles.

Each model behicle or gun represents a platoon or battery consisting of four of that type, each personnel stand represents a platoon of approximately 40 men. Units listed in italics are support troops that usually do not accompany the combat elements into the field.

The 2040 Armored Division was specifically created for service against the Roman Empire during the 2042 campaign in France. Created from the 1st and 2nd Armored Brigades, it was expanded and reequipped with the new Willamette I tanks. Built on the three brigade pattern like the infantry division, it proved a large and somewhat unwieldy unit to handle, and generally operated like three loosely connected brigades. Only the 1st Armored Division ever used the 2040 TO & E. The 1st Armored Division was organnized in Rosas, Spain in the late fall of 2040 and remained there until the start of the 2042 War. It served with distinction in 2042, relieving the Guard Armored Division in Milan and smashing large concentrations of Roman troops. It was transferred to North America in 2043 where it was stationed at Fort Stewart,Georgia, where it provided the cadre for the newly organized 2nd Armored Division. It spearheaded the assault on the Chattanooga Fortress in 2044, breaking into the city behind a massive aerial and artillery barrage. It crossed the Ohio on the Lawrenceburg pontoon bridge and fought against the enemy counterattacks with considerable success. It is currently stationed in Southern Ohio Province.

The 2043 Armored Division TO & E was developed after Kilroy Commission's evaluations of the performance of the 2040 Armored Division TO & E in the Roman War of 2042 pointed out the relative inflexibility of the three permanent brigade concept. In essence, the division had operated as three independent brigades rather than a single, cohesive division.

At the same time, mounting tensions with the Islamic Caliphate led King Patrick to decide on a preventive attack sheduled for the early summer of 2044. The rapidly expanding Islamic armored forces suggested that increased UKA armored capability was demanded.

Army planners split the 1st Armored into two and both were built up to a two tank and four infantry battalion model, with supporting units on a similar level to the old TO & E, making two smaller divisions with greater firepower. The 2nd Armored Division was created out of cadres from the 1st in 2043. It remained in garrison, undergoing extensive training at Fort Stewart, Georgia until the assault on Chattanooga in 2044, where it supported the 1st Armored Division's attack on that fortress. At the Battle of Dayton, Tennessee, the 2nd Armored smashed a heavily reinforced tank corps in a head-on meeting engagement, inflicting severe losses on the enemy whil suffering only moderate losses on itself. It crossed the Lawrenceburg pontoon bridge, where it remained in reserve. Currently, the 2nd Armored is the mobile reserve force for the Joliet Province.

The main change in the 2046 Armored Division TO & E is the change of the infantry's medium maching gun platoon to a weapons platoon with mixed machine guns and light mortars as had been done with the leg and motorized infantry divisions, plus the addition of a multiple rocket launcher battalion to the divisional artillery.

The 3rd Armored Division was created by Royal Decree early in 2046 when it was clear that the provisions of the treaty with the Roman Empire that barred the stationing of UKA armored divisions in Europe was moot as a result of the debacle in the Roman/Turkish-Mongol War. This war resulted in the conversion of the Romans from a potential adversary to a frightened semi-client state. The 3rd Armored Division is being formed from components that are already in existence for most of its combat battalions and new divisional serices and artillery elements. As of this writing, September 2046, it is not yet considered fully operational.

The 2045 Motorized Infantry Division was developed to provide support for the armored divisions as a result of experiences during the Islamic War of 2044, when leg infantry units were unable to keep up with the advancing armored divisions. Three veteran infantry divisions, the 10th, 11th, and 32nd Infantry were chosen for conversion to the new T O & E. They were reduced to two brigades, with the remaining brigades being broken up for conversion to a number of engineer battalions. A tank battalion was added, as well as a multiple rocket launcher battalion. In addition, all rifle companies in the divisions were enlarged by an additional rifle platoon. All new equipment was provided from captured Islamic materiel surrendered in 2044, including tanks, and all the trucks used to transport personnel.
